Commonwealth Games

I noticed on the BBC Sports website that the Commonwealth Games is currently going on.  Absolutely no mention of it whatsoever on any of the other (American) sport sites or programs I peruse.  Why is this still a thing?  What a pointless waste of time and money.  A ridiculous relic of a falsely glorified Empire, and a third-rate sporting event to boot.  A Commonwealth Games medal has practically zero value and meaning - so I don't know why anyone bothers to compete.
