You call it Remembrance Day or Armistice Day or Poppy Day - but here in the US it is called Veterans Day. It is recognized as a federal holiday, but I don't think we get a day off work for this one, which is a shame. I always kind of wondered how Americans distinguish between Veterans Day and Memorial Day - according to Wikipedia it is that Veterans Day commemorates the service of all US veterans, whereas Memorial Day honors those who have died in military service. I guess that's a subtle difference, with some significant overlap. I've been wearing a poppy brooch all week - but absolutely nobody has acknowledged it. Either Americans don't notice, don't understand or don't care about what the remembrance poppy stands for.
