The value of the pound has plummeted against the dollar over the last months. Currently, one pound is worth about $1.09. We are heading inexorably towards a 1 to 1 exchange rate, which is shocking. But not bad for me, as it means that my dollars will go a lot further when I come back to the UK. Indeed, one of my friends e-mailed me thinking about buying property in the UK. I think he was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it is interesting to think about. I remember that not long after I first came to the US, I transferred quite a significant proportion of my UK savings to the US at an exchange rate of about 2 dollars to 1 pound. I don't think we'll ever go back to those heady levels again.
