Deja Vu

I'm reading a novel at the moment (Restless by William Boyd) that seems eerily familiar to me.  I can't decide whether it's because I've read it before, whether I've seen the TV adaption or whether it is just too generic a spy novel.  It's really bugging me.  Either way, for a novel that won the Costa Book Award (a supposedly prestigious literary award) I don't think it's that good, though not bad - but certainly inferior to the masterpieces by John Le Carre.  All the more disappointing, because one of his other novels - Any Human Heart - is absolutely terrific.  He is also the author of one of the post-Ian Fleming Bond novels - but I'm only a Bond film aficionado and haven't read any of the books.  Perhaps I will one day.
