Perhaps because we had perfect weather, the amount of fireworks set off last night seemed a lot more than previous years. Mostly illegally. What is the point of having fireworks ordinances if (a) people ignore them and (b) police don't enforce them. But it's like this every 4th July, so this comes as no surprise. I didn't bother watching any fireworks displays - either in person or on telly. I'm not even sure how much I would have seen from outside my house - my field of vision of the night sky is quite limited. But I cannot avoid hearing all the fireworks - lasting well into the late night (and some more this evening). However, I do enjoy July 5th as it tends to be quite peaceful - especially in the morning when most people are sleeping in or nursing hangovers.
