After my company reported higher than expected sales last week, the share price promptly increased by nearly 10% - to their highest ever value. As someone who participates in the employee stock purchase plan, this is obviously good news. But then the question becomes should I cash in some of my shares at this valuation or not? Obviously there is no way to predict the whims of the market in the future. Especially under this administration. But I don't think I will. My approach is only to sell stock when I really need it. Like, for example, if I get laid off. Indeed, if I get laid off then this stock could well become my main source of income for a while. So let's hope the stock price doesn't come crashing down anytime soon!
