As I was driving home this evening, I saw that several houses in the neighbo(u)rhood already had their extravagant Christmas decorations set up. My initial thought was that this seemed too early. But on reflection, maybe it isn't. Christmas seems to be starting earlier and earlier each year. Christmas adverts have been airing conspicuously on TV since Halloween. Same for Christmas items for sale in the supermarkets. And the first weekend after Thanksgiving, which is only a week away, is typically when most people put up their decorations anyway- so having them up a week earlier is hardly a big stretch. Indeed, I'm probably going to put up my decorations - at least my outdoor decorations - next weekend. Which basically just involves me hanging up some lights in such a way that it was clearly not done by a professional.
