Today was my first time attending a funeral service in person. I don't think I attended any of my grandparent or other relative's funerals, and I've been fortunate that none of my friends have passed. So this was something of a new experience for me. It seemed to go well - suitably solemn but a suitable remembrance for my father. I don't care much for small talk, so I'm not one to mingle and introduce myself to the various guests, many of whom I do not know or haven't seen for many years - but that's not to say that I'm thankful they came to show their respects. The same goes for all the time and effort my mother and sister went into arranging the service and wake. I feel guilty that I didn't do more. However, it kind of confirmed to me that when the time comes - I would be happy with a direct cremation and no funeral service. It's a personal choice but my main reasoning is that funeral costs are outrageously exorbitant and that is the cheapest option.
