I finally got round to watching Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues yesterday evening. And, much as feared, it is a shadow of its predecessor. It had a few laugh out loud moments, but sadly only a few. I don't quite know why it didn't work - maybe it is as simple as the fact that 40 years ago the mockumentary style was groundbreaking and original, but now it isn't. Maybe the humo(u)r doesn't work so well now the characters are older, and the music industry has changed. Maybe it's trying too hard to put a new spin on the same jokes as the original. Maybe it's just not a particularly well made film. I certainly didn't care for the overabundance of celebrity cameos. I'm giving it 2 out of 5, and that's mainly from nostalgia for the original.
